As the name suggests, this is a mix of three types of lettuce in one bag: Oak Leaf, Lollo Bionda and Lollo Rossa. It combines succulent and tender leaves (because these lettuces are harvested when they are still young) with glorious colours and a spicy, nutty flavour.
Cleaning and storage
These lettuces are best stored in an unsealed bag in the vegetable compartment of your refrigerator. The base of the Oak Leaf lettuce should be removed by carefully rotating it until it drops off. This will also release the leaves. The leaves of the Lollo Bionda and Lollo Rossa lettuce could be left whole or torn (never cut the leaves with a knife) into smaller pieces. In this way your lettuce will stay nice and fresh longer.
Preparation method
The Oak Leaf lettuce is mostly eaten raw and often combined with other varieties. In fact, because of its distinctive taste and decorative appearance, Oak Leaf is often used to enhance the flavour and presentation of mixed salads.
And Lollo Rossa and Lollo Bionda lettuces complement any meal with an Italian touch to it! They go well with all kind of fried, grilled or roasted meats. And if love grilled fish, you will be absolutely delighted with a Lolla Bionda salad to go with it. In addition, the attractive red Lollo Rossa is widely used in various types of mixed salads or to garnish a dish.
